Emotional competence refer to the abilities to display predominantly positive rather than negative emotions, correctly identify others" emotions and respond appropriately to them, and adjust one"s own emotions to appropriate levels of intensity in order to achieve one"s goals
Moreover, Emotional competence means:
(1) competent emotional expressivity - frequent expression of more positive emotions and relatively infrequent displays of negative ones;
(2) competent emotional knowledge - the ability to correctly identify other people"s feelings and the factors responsible for those emotions); and
(3) competent emotional regulation - the ability to adjust one"s experience and expression of emotional arousal to an appropriate level of intensity to successfully achieve one"s goals.
