Intuitive versus instrumental grieving
Intuitive versus instrumental grieving refers to Martin and Doka's terms used to contrast two (2) extremes in a spectrum of grieving styles; (1) Intuitive emphasizes experiencing and expressing emotion, and
(2) Instrumental focuses on practical matters and problem solving; formerly, these might have been contrasted as "feminine” (or "conventional”) versus "masculine” styles, but the point to note is that this is essentially a matter of style, not gender.
