Long Term Memory (LTM and as a noun phrase without hyphens) is a crucial component of the human memory system, responsible for storing information for extended periods, ranging from days to a lifetime. It contrasts with short-term memory, which holds information temporarily. Long-term memory is essential for learning, recalling past experiences, and performing complex cognitive tasks.
Long-term memory refers to memory of an event that is not currently held in attention ; the aspects of memory involved in remembering rather extensive amounts of information over relatively long periods of time. Moreover, Long-term memory refers to complex network of information, concepts, and schemes related by associations, knowledge, and use. It is the storehouse of a lifetime of information. Long-term store refers to a very large capacity, capable of storing information for very long periods, perhaps even indefinitely In information-processing approaches to cognition, Long-term store is the large and presumably permanent repository of information in the brain.
