In psychology, the term 'phantom' is often used to refer to the experience of sensation or perception in a body part that has been amputated or lost. This phenomenon is known as phantom sensation or phantom limb sensation.
Phantom limb is defined as the illusory sensation that a limb still exists after it is lost through accident or amputation; the continuing sensation of an amputated body part.
Phantom limb, moreover refers to a person’s continued perception of a limb, such as an arm or a leg, even though that limb has been amputated.
