Glossary A

Amnion

Amnion refers to a thin, tough, membranous sac that encloses the embryo or fetus ; inner sac in which the developing child rests. Amnion is also defined as a watertight membrane that surrounds the developing embryo, serving to regulate its temperature and to cushion it against injuries.

Amniotic fluid is the fluid within the amniotic sac that surrounds, suspends and protects the fetus.
