Word extension refers to the range of exemplars to which a word refers.
word fragment completion task refers to an implicit memory test in which the subject has to fill in the missing letters of a fragmented word

Word level refers to a level of written language perception in which a visual stimulus is represented as a familiar word.

Word recognition refers to the ability to read or pronounce a word; usually implies that the word is recognized immediately by sight and that the child does not need to apply word analysis skills.

Word salad refer to unconnected words and word sounds. This feature of Wernicke's Aphasia is a deficit in placing words together in proper grammatical and syntactical form. This condition is more formally known as Paragrammatism or Extended Paraphasia, and it is characterized by running speech that is logically incoherent, often sounding like an exotic foreign language.

word spurt refers to the rapid increase in word (mostly noun) learning, occurring at about 18 months of age. It is the increase in the rate at which children acquire new words; it occurs sometime around the achievement of a 50-word vocabulary, or about 18 months of age.
word-initial cohort is a term in auditory word recognition that refers to the initial set of lexical candidates activated by the comprehender.

word-recognition method refers to a method for learning to read in which children come to recognize words through repeated exposure to them.
